The converter serves as a transition between a classic metallic net and optics. The converter is suitable wherever the distance between two points is longer than the classic matt network allowing and it is not possible to use a galvanic connection. Optical fibers also resistly resist disturbing electromagnetic or atmospheric influences.

The Media converter only supports Gigabit Ethernet. The 10/100 Mbps does not support.
